I just installed my HP Laserjet 3055 on a new iMac with 10.0 (Yosemite). The bottom line is that using the Time Machine backup, I did *not* need to run any HP installer program, I only installed some files. If someone wants run an older LaserJet (3050, 3055, 3090?) printer/scanner on Yosemite OS X 10, this may be useful information: But if you have done that, you should be able to just access the printer dialog box as I described. PS The image capture solution only works if you have already installed the drivers, according to the person from HP.

This is the link to get to the drivers page, but it may change over time so if it doesn't work, just go to the main website, then find the correct printer page, then go to drivers. If there is no icon, you can access it by going to Programs (or All Programs) go to HP 1512 printer, click on it and choose whatever option you want (Print, Copy, Scan). Once installed, there should be an icon on your desktop for the printer, click on it, go to the scan option and just click on it. You should have received a disc with your printer, which has everything you need, but if not, go to the HP website, find the printer you need (I have the 1512, but the situation is apparently the same for the 1510), download the drivers for your appropriate operating system (ie Windows 7, 32-bit, or Windows 8.1, 64-bit, Mac, etc.) and follow the instructions to install.

If you want to scan or do other things (apparently it can also print wirelessly, though it is not really recommended) you will need to install the drivers. The 1512 will print as long as the USB cable is connected to the computer, simply by pushing either the color print or black and white print icon on the left lower corner on the top of the printer. I had to call HP and have their staff install the drivers by remote control, but you can do it yourself if you want. By now I hope you have resolved your problem but since I just got a new 1512 printer and needed to know the same thing, I thought I'd post a response for anyone else who has the same problem.
